With all the beauty that wood veneers offer, nothing can be more spectacular than:
CURL VENEERS
MAHOGANY CURL/ CROTCH
There are many different species from around the World but only a few give rise to a Curl Veneer (UK terminology)or a Crotch Veneer (USA terminology)
"Well what is this Curl veneer all about and where does it come from", we are often asked.
In simple terms the Curl comes from a section of the tree where the 2 main branches fork out (left side of photo below).Right side of the photo is the main trunk of the tree that has been cross cut.
As the grain splits it runs to the two different branches as per photo below.
WALNUT CURL ON BANDSAW BEING TRIMMED PRIOR TO SLICING
By carefully cutting out this section of the tree with a chain saw it is possible to produce a block of timber as in the photo above and below. When sliced it gives rise to the beautiful grain pattern known as a curl.
RELIANCE VENEER (LONDON) LOG YARD The size of curl veneer is in direct proportion to the size of the tree. Most Curls are approx 1m to 1.5m long.
Very rarely do Curls exceed a length of 2m, but when they do they are very rare and highly prized for doors and panels.
Presently our Dubai warehouse has over 8 different species of Curl to offer.
Reliance Veneer's Curls are used for:
Car Dashboards of luxury cars.
The interiors of Super Yachts and Corporate Jets.
High quality fit outs.
Fine furniture.
In conclusion, we have to be thankful that nature can produce such wonders and that these special logs can be produced into veneers for all to enjoy and admire.
The below photo's of Curls/ Crotches are just a sample selection of our stocks.
